We have operated the Wheatsheaf Inn based in Ingleton since 2009. It has seen many transformations of time but here are some interesting facts and points about it:
1. Early Establishment: The Wheatsheaf Inn is believed to have been established in the 18th century, making it one of the older inns in the region. It was originally a coaching inn, providing rest and refreshment for traveler's along the routes that passed through Ingleton.
2. Coaching Era: During the coaching era, the inn served as an essential stop for stagecoaches and traveler's, offering food, drink, and lodging. This period significantly contributed to its prominence in local history.
3. Its Previous Use: This Coaching Inn was extended in the 1800´s to include a Blacksmiths shop and stables, which we now use as our dining room. One of our rooms upstairs was used as a court house to the Ewercross district. This is where the J.P´s met to renew the licenses for many of the Inn´s in the area.
4. Community Role: Over the years, the Wheatsheaf has been a central meeting place for the community, hosting various events and gatherings. It has played a vital role in local culture and social life, from village meetings to celebrations.
5. Architecture and Renovations: The inn features traditional Yorkshire stone architecture, which has been preserved and renovated over time to maintain its historical character while modernising facilities for guests.
